Essex Council has approved, in principle, $100,000 towards paving shoulders on part of County Road 50.

Councillor John Scott says the work is needed for the one-kilometre section through Colchester.

“Essex has four centres and Colchester Centre is the only one that does not have any sidewalks, any trails, any paved shoulders, any bikeways – nothing,” he said. “(It’s) safer for your kids, safer for coming out and enjoying the wine routes and people walking down to the beach.”

The road was listed as a premiere route in the County Wide Active Transportation System completed earlier this year. Scott says he hopes the project will be started in 2012.
