You may look at your bowl of Mini Wheats a little differently now.
A new study find that your cereal box may hold the key to a longer life!
Scientists at the Harvard School of Public Health have been researching the impact of cereal fiber on diet for many years now. They found that people who ate cereals with high fiber lived longer than those who chose less healthy breakfast items.
People who ate healthy cereal had a 19% reduced risk of death, compared to those who ate the least amount of cereal fiber.
What’s more, the researchers that those who make high fiber cereal a part of their morning routine had a 34% lower risk of death from diabetes and a 15% reduced risk of death from cancer.
They concluded that cereal fiber is one “potentially protective component” of a really healthy, diet – one that could possibly prevent premature death.
If you want to get your fill with just one serving of cereal, aim for those that have at least 10 grams of fiber per serving on the label. Fiber One has 14g per serving. Kashi GoLean has 10g.
Other popular cereals such as Cheerios have fiber (just not as much) but it’s better than nothing I guess!!
