Fallen in love with a tree? You aren’t the only one!!!
Sure, you may have talked to your houseplants but have you ever sent a personal message…to an oak?
Some people in Melbourne Australia have.
They are actually sending emails to trees.
A program was started over there a few years ago that allowed every tree in the city to be mapped and given a unique ID number. So if any citizen saw that a tree had a broken limb, or was in a severe state of decline, they could send an email and arborists could easily locate it and intervene.
So far they have received thousands of these emails but some people are actually using the system to send personal messages and love notes TO the trees themselves.
Here are some examples….
“Today I was struck, not by a branch, but by your radiant beauty. You must get these messages all the time. You’re such an attractive tree.”
“I’m sitting indoors near you and I noticed on the urban tree map you don’t have many friends nearby. I think that’s sad so I want you to know I’m thinking of you.”
“Dearest Golden Elm: You are the most beautiful tree in the city and I love you. It always makes me so happy to see you standing there minding your own business.”
