Almost every parent knows the book, Love You Forever.

A sweet story about, what many of us thought, a very dedicated mom. One that hovers and shows her love to her son even as he reaches adulthood.

But Robert Munsch, the author of the childhood classic, has shared the REAL reason that book came to be.

Munsch says he wrote it after he and his wife faced the terrible tragedy of stillbirth.

He wrote on his website, “I made that up after my wife and I had two babies born dead. The song was my song to my dead babies. For a long time I had it in my head and I couldn’t even sing it because every time I tried to sing it I cried. It was very strange having a song in my head that I couldn’t sing. For a long time it was just a song but one day, while telling stories at a big theatre at the University of Guelph, it occurred to me that I might be able to make a story around the song. Out popped Love You Forever, pretty much the way it is in the book.”

So while we just assumed the story was about, what some would call a ‘helicopter mom’, it actually means so much more.  That no matter what happens to our children, even if they’re no longer with us on Earth, we’ll continue to love them forever.
