*UPDATED: IKEA’s weird new Windsor project is NOT happening
UPDATE: hmmmm… forgot to check the calendar. DAAAAARN YOU, APRIL FOOLS!!!
(on a side note, we will welcome IKEA with open arms if they ever decide to come here. Over 1000 of us even offered to help build the store ourselves! Take note, Sweden. Windsor is ready.)
LISTEN TO THE RECAP HERE:
IKEA is not a fan of putting things together. This week the company plans to launch a grassroots ‘build your own store’ campaign, one of the first of it’s kind. The basic idea, according to CEO Peter Agnefjäll, is for the Swedish furniture giant to ship all the parts to Windsor along with instructions (in French and English) for us to assemble the store ourselves.
Would you volunteer your time to put a new IKEA together if it meant getting one in Windsor? The company seems to think we want an IKEA bad enough to sign up for a few weekends of free labour to build the proposed distribution centre.
We heard Drew Dilkens talking about 100 jobs the other day but we didn’t expect to be paid in IKEA coupons instead of money! Interesting idea though, we’re liking the page just in case.
Reports about the project has already begun across all local media:
