Nooooo! Downton Abbey announces next season will be their last
The period drama Downton Abbey, the super successful saga of the wealthy and aristocratic Crawley family set in the early 20th century, will end next year.
The show made the announcement today saying “The time has come to announce that Series 6 will be our final visit to #Downton. Thank you for sharing our journey!”
Written and created by Julian Fellowes, ‘Downton’ has been on the air since 2010 and has gained a very loyal and very large following.
Rumors of the show’s impending end have been swirling since it was discovered that Fellowes signed a deal with NBC to write “The Gilded Age,” a period drama about New York high society.
Maggie Smith, who portrays matriarch Lady Violet Crawley, recently predicted that the show would end soon.
“They say this is the last one, and I can’t see how it could go on,” Smith said. “I mean, (my character) certainly can’t keep going. To my knowledge, I must be 110 by now. We’re into the late 1920s.”
