Fiddle-dee-dee!!! Gone With The Wind still outshines Jurassic World for box office gross
Sure, the dinosaurs are ruling the earth again right now.
But are they really?
According to figures this week, “Jurassic World” set the box-office record for the best opening weekend of all time. But once you factor in inflation, we get a much different picture (so to speak).
When you adjust for inflation, higher cinema ticket prices and rereleases, the 1939 classic “Gone With The Wind” is tops.
That movie, along with “Star Wars” and “The Sound of Music” are the absolute three highest grossing movies ever, according to Box Office Mojo, a box-office tracking site.
GWTW’s $198 million in ticket sales would actually be $1.64 billion in today’s dollars, “Star Wars” would have pulled in $1.45 billion in this day and age, and, adjusted for inflation, “The Sound of Music” would have netted $1.16 billion.
