Star Wars fan dies just days after seeing first screening of “The Force Awakens”
The Texas man who was the first member of the public to see “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has died.
Daniel Fleetwood, a “Star Wars” fan for most of his life, was diagnosed with terminal cancer and was given just months to live.
Afraid he wouldn’t live long enough to see the movie in theatres, friends and family of Daniel’s took to social media to launch #ForceForDaniel, a campaign that drew support from “Star Wars” actors Mark Hamill, Peter Mayhew and John Boyega.
Last Thursday, a Disney rep confirmed that the 32 year old’s wish was granted. Daniel spoke with director J. J. Abrams on the phone after which a screening was arranged at his home.
His wife Ashley posted on Facebook today about Daniel’s passing, saying he died in his sleep and in peace.
“Daniel put up an amazing fight to the very end,” she wrote. “He is now one with God and with the force.”
