No…Drake Did Not Die
The internet strikes again, and this time it’s at Drake!
He’s the latest to falsely be deemed deceased, after a photoshopped LA Times article circulated Twitter on Saturday.
Fans erupted, with the hashtag #RIPDrake trending moments later.
It’s only fitting that some off-hand, hilarious Tweets follow the news that he’s fine. Check out some of our favorites:
Obviously…this is not true. But this does spark a conversation about how easily we believe celebrities died without any credible source.
Perhaps the earliest example is the rumored & FALSE death of Paul McCartney in 1966. People say the real Paul died then and a look-alike is the one we’ve seen since. Queue Avril Lavigne, cause the conspiracy theory is identical.
Twenty(ish) years ago, two radio DJs decided to start a rumor that both Britney Spears & Justin Timberlake, who were together at the time, died in a car accident. Of course this is false, but doesn’t that just seem cruel?
Another notable fake death includes Nick Jonas, with a couple different claims of his death. First, he apparently died of cardiac arrest due to complications from his diabetes. Later he died again when his heart stopped after a lap dance in a Dallas strip club (?!!!).
The last we’ll touch on is Taylor Swift, who has been “killed” several times. In 2009, she was said to have been in a fatal car accident and then, months later, she “died” from an allergic reaction to sleeping pills.
Moral of the story, STOP FAKING CELEBRITY DEATHS! As Jay so eloquently put it – it will only make it more challenging for people to grasp when they DO actually pass away.
Let’s reminisce on some simpler times…you know, before Drake died…
