Britney Speaks In Court About “Abusive” Conservatorship
Yesterday evening, Britney Spears was granted, for the first time, permission to speak for herself in court and requested to make it available to the public.
Thankfully, we have been able to hear Britney’s opening statement, which revealed an awful lot of terrible details of her conservatorship.
If you’d like to hear her entire statement, you can listen here (warning: it’s long and contains some swearing):
Here are some of the big takeaways:
She Wants The Entire Conservatorship Dissolved
Rather than seeking for her father to be removed from her conservatorship, she is requesting the judge (Judge Brenda Penny) get rid of the conservatorship, sharing that “it does far more harm then good for me.”
She compared her situation to sex trafficking, saying that working long hours, 7-days a week against her will makes her feel exploited.
She Has An IUD In Her, And Her Guardians Won’t Let Her Get It Removed
Perhaps the most heartbreaking detail she shared was about her guardians forcing her to be on birth control.
Britney shared that she wants to have more children, but she isn’t able to have the IUD removed.
She Was Forced To Be On Strong Drugs
On top of having no say in her reproduction, she was put on Lithium, a very strong medication for bipolar disorder. She says she was on a different medication for 5 years and was forced to change for no reason.
She added that this drug made her “feel drunk” and said she could barely have conversations with her own parents.
She Says Her Family Did “Nothing” To Help Her, and She Wants Them Sued
On top of calling out the legal team who allowed for this to happen to her (or for things to get this bad), she called out her entire family, saying they did nothing to help her.
Her father is the chief person at fault here, but it’s sad knowing that the rest of them didn’t help either.
Lots of celebrities are speaking up in support of Britney, including her ex Justin Timberlake:
