The 2021 Oscars Were …Something
Didn’t bother watching The 93rd Oscars last night? Don’t worry…it looks like most people didn’t either!

1. They Intentionally Changed The Order of Awards…For Nothing?
Typically, the Best Picture award is given out to conclude the night.
This year, they rearranged the order to have Best Lead Actor be the final award. Many assumed that this was because it was going to Chadwick Boseman, and there would be a special tribute.
Instead, people were pretty upset to watch Anthony Hopkins take the award for his role in The Father when he wasn’t even present.
Rumor has it he didn’t even find out about his win until this morning.

2. Daniel Kaluuya Thanked His Parents For Having Sex
My favorite part of the Oscars is the thank-you speeches. I love a little emotion, a little humor, a little hope. But I did not see this one coming.
When Daniel Kaluuya took the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Judas and the Black Massiah”, no one expected him to thank his parents for having sex, conceiving him.
Even his mother looked mortified, it was pretty wild but also pretty hilarious.

3. “Nomadland” Was The Big Winner
If you haven’t had the chance to watch this yet, good news: it’s finally on Disney+!
You’ll definitely want to check it out after it won in major categories including Best Picture, Best Actress (for Frances McDormand) and Best Directing.
This was also a history-making night for director Chloé Zhao as she became the first Chinese woman — and also the first woman of colour — to win Oscars for both Best Picture and Best Director.

4. Tyler Perry Won Humanitarian Award & Had Beautiful Message
There’s gotta be a lot much pressure to deliver a monumental speech when getting the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, and Tyler Perry DELIVERED.
And in case anyone is wondering, YES, I am pouting about The Trial of the Chicago 7 taking home 0 awards 🙁
